How accessible is sen.fish?
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. On my site, I aim to conform to a minimum of WCAG 2.2 level AA.
Limitations and alternatives
Despite my best efforts, parts of my site may not be accessible. I have provided a list of known limitations and potential solutions below. Please contact me if you observe an issue not listed below.
Known limitations:
- Ads on the Digital Ad Archive may not have text alternatives because I do not have the resources to add text alternatives to every image. I plan to add alternative text gradually, when I have the time to do so. Upon request, I can provide text alternatives for specific images; please contact me via email.
- Animations on the 404 and raccoonfish pages are not pausable because I have not yet implemented a gif pausing script. I am in the process of implementing the ability to pause these animations. Avoid these pages for now if you do not wish to see automatically moving images.
- User-generated and third party content may not conform to accessibility guidelines because I cannot ensure their quality. Please email me if you need help with a user message.
Additional accessibility considerations
Although my goal is WCAG 2.2 Level AA conformance, I have also applied some Level AAA Success Criteria:
- "All functionality of the content is operable through a keyboard interface without requiring specific timings for individual keystrokes" (WCAG Success Criterion 2.1.3).
- "Timing is not an essential part of the event or activity presented by the content, except for non-interactive synchronized media and real-time events" (WCAG Success Criterion 2.2.3)
- "Interruptions can be postponed or suppressed by the user, except interruptions involving an emergency" (WCAG Success Criterion 2.2.4).
- "When a user interface component receives keyboard focus, no part of the component is hidden by author-created content" (WCAG Success Criterion 2.4.12)
- "Web content does not restrict use of input modalities available on a platform except where the restriction is essential, required to ensure the security of the content, or required to respect user settings" (WCAG Success Criterion 2.5.6).
- "A mechanism for identifying the expanded form or meaning of abbreviations is available" (WCAG Success Criterion 3.1.4 Abbreviations).
- "Changes of context are initiated only by user request or a mechanism is available to turn off such changes" (WCAG Success Criterion 3.2.5).
