How accessible is sen.fish?

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. On my site, I aim to conform to a minimum of WCAG 2.2 level AA.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite my best efforts, parts of my site may not be accessible. I have provided a list of known limitations and potential solutions below. Please contact me if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations:

  1. Ads on the Digital Ad Archive may not have text alternatives because I do not have the resources to add text alternatives to every image. I plan to add alternative text gradually, when I have the time to do so. Upon request, I can provide text alternatives for specific images; please contact me via email.
  2. Animations on the 404 and raccoonfish pages are not pausable because I have not yet implemented a gif pausing script. I am in the process of implementing the ability to pause these animations. Avoid these pages for now if you do not wish to see automatically moving images.
  3. User-generated and third party content may not conform to accessibility guidelines because I cannot ensure their quality. Please email me if you need help with a user message.

Additional accessibility considerations

Although my goal is WCAG 2.2 Level AA conformance, I have also applied some Level AAA Success Criteria:

  1. "All functionality of the content is operable through a keyboard interface without requiring specific timings for individual keystrokes" (WCAG Success Criterion 2.1.3).
  2. "Timing is not an essential part of the event or activity presented by the content, except for non-interactive synchronized media and real-time events" (WCAG Success Criterion 2.2.3)
  3. "Interruptions can be postponed or suppressed by the user, except interruptions involving an emergency" (WCAG Success Criterion 2.2.4).
  4. "When a user interface component receives keyboard focus, no part of the component is hidden by author-created content" (WCAG Success Criterion 2.4.12)
  5. "Web content does not restrict use of input modalities available on a platform except where the restriction is essential, required to ensure the security of the content, or required to respect user settings" (WCAG Success Criterion 2.5.6).
  6. "A mechanism for identifying the expanded form or meaning of abbreviations is available" (WCAG Success Criterion 3.1.4 Abbreviations).
  7. "Changes of context are initiated only by user request or a mechanism is available to turn off such changes" (WCAG Success Criterion 3.2.5).
